About Brooks Bozman

Cellist, Teacher, Purveyor of Fine Stringed Instruments, Luthier

Brooks Bozman, owner and general manager of Mercury Fine Violins, Ltd. provides truly exceptional instruments and as well as a complete range of repair and referral services. Mr. Bozman has over 25 years experience as a cellist and teacher, and over 15 years of experience in the violin and stringed instrument trade.

While at James Madison University and the University of Iowa, Mr. Bozman studied performance and music pedagogy. During his work with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra principal cellist Mihaly Virizlay, he took a three year course of study in instrument repair with Baltimore luthier, James Cox.

After his apprenticeship, Mr. Bozman applied his trade in Baltimore. From 2000-2003 he served as a repair technician for the Potter Violin Company, further developing his skills in the environment of a larger violin shop. Mr. Bozman moved to the Richmond area and established Mercury Fine Violins, Ltd. in 2003.

While performing with orchestras and teaching in the Washington, D.C./Baltimore areas, Mr. Bozmanís volunteer activities include work with the MD/DC Chapter of the American String Teachers Association as cello forum editor, the Maryland Symphony Orchestra as Players' Committee Chairman and with the D.C. Artists to End Hunger as volunteer musician coordinator.

Mr. Bozman has continued his community support through membership on the Board of Directors of Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia.
